Hyderabad: Former Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy began a seven-day fast here today demanding release of funds for the tuition fees reimbursement scheme by the Andhra Government. The former Congress MP, who had resigned from the party in November last year, began his fast at the Indira Park here this afternoon in the presence of thousands of students and other supporters.
At least eleven MLAs-N Prasannakumar Reddy, Makapati Chandrasekhar Reddy, Balnagi Reddy, Konda Surekha, P Subash Chandra Bose, Srikant Reddy, Adinarayana Reddy, Balineni Srinivasa Reddy, G Babu Rao, K Rami Reddy, Amarnath Reddy, who are loyal to Jagan were present at the hunger strike here in protest against the release of funds for the tuition fees reimbursement scheme.
Meanwhile, the managements of professional colleges in Andhra Pradesh have threatened to shut down the colleges from February 24 following failure of the talks with the state government for release of at least 50 per cent of Rs 3,500 crore towards fee reimbursement. The government has however, agreed for the release of Rs 1000 crore for the purpose.
