Kadapa: The stage is set for Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to prove to the Congress that he is the true inheritor of the YSR legacy with the Election Commission on Wednesday announcing May 8 as the date for the byelections to the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula assembly constituencies. The model code of conduct comes into effect in Kadapa (YSR) district with immediate effect.
The bypolls were necessitated due to the resignation of Jagan from the Kadapa Lok Sabha seat and his mother Vijayalakshmi from the Pulivendula assembly constituency. Both of them are likely to re-contest from the same seats but under the YSR Congress banner.
As per the schedule, the notification will be issued on April 11, and April 18 will be the last date for filing of nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on April 19 and April 21 will be the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
Polling will take place between 8 am and 5 pm on May 8 and the results will be announced on May 13. Electronic voting machines will be used in the elections. The Congress is yet to finalise its candidates but there are indications that agriculture minister and YSR’s brother Y S Vivekananda Reddy will be fielded from Kadapa. The ruling party may not contest the Pulivendula assembly seat.
