Hyderabad: Former Congress MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy continued his fast and it reached day 6 th today, to press for the release of funds for tuition fees reimbursement in Andhra Pradesh.
Doctors, who attended on Jagan here, said his sugar levels have come down and that he needs medical attention.
Police tried to move Jagan to hospital during Last midnight. However, the 37-year-old leader is refused the request and determined to continue fast.
He is mentally strong and determined to continue the fast for one full week, doctors said.
Jagan loyalist and ex-Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Chairman B Karunakar Reddy said the former Kadapa MP would observe the fast for seven days as announced by him.
His supporters slammed the state”s Congress Government for not having the courtesy to speak to him or take steps for releasing the funds.
On Tuesday, Social Welfare Minister P Satyanarayana said the Government will abide by the Supreme Court verdict on the fees reimbursement issue and asked Jagan to end his fast.
The apex court Monday directed the AP Government to pay by June 15 around Rs 3,500 crore as reimbursement to private engineering colleges towards fees for the poor students.
Congress MLAs, loyal to Jagan, called on him on February 18 when he started the fast. Some of them have been meeting him since then.
The dues in school fees reimbursement are to the tune of Rs 3,500 crore. The Government has released Rs 1,000 crore.
Professional colleges have threatened to shutdown from February 24 if the Government failed to release at least 50 per cent of the pending funds.
