KADAPA, 10th April : All India Radio Kadapa station is in a deplorable state with the posts of Station Director, two assistant Station Directors and seven programme executives remaining vacant for a long time, Founder-Secretary of C.P. Brown Library Janumaddi Hanumath Sastry said on Saturday.
The music section having seven members was wound up about a decade ago for unknown reasons and AIR Kadapa station has only three executives, he lamented in a representation faxed to Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni.
The station was inaugurated in 1983 by then Information Minister B. Gopal Reddy as an auxiliary station with single transmission, he recalled.
Following representations, it was upgraded as an originating station with three stations in 1983 with 111 staff members, Dr. Hanumath Sastry said. During the last 12 years, staff strength dwindled and quality of programmes came down, he said.
Rayalaseema has a glorious history and is the abode of number of classical artistes, poets and writers and a Century-old “Surabhi Nataka Samajam”.
The region has five universities, 126 degree colleges, four music colleges and Sanskrit University in Tirupati. He wanted all the post filled to air programmes for the farming community on the latest trends in the drought-prone area, he said.
