Kadapa : The Election Commission of India (EC) has allotted `ceiling fan’ as a common symbol to the candidates of YSR Congress party __Y S Jagan Reddy and Y S Vijayalakshmi __ in the bypolls for Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula assembly constituencies.
As the deadline for withdrawal of candidature ended at 3 pm on Thursday, the EC allotted the common symbol to both the candidates by virtue of their being the sitting members in their respective constituencies.
42 contestants in Kadapa & 25 in Pulivendula
There are 42 candidates in fray for Kadapa Lok Sabha while 25 candidates are contesting for the Pulivendula assembly seat. There are totally nine candidates with the name of Jaganmohan Reddy in Kadapa, and four with the name of Vijayalakshmi in Pulivendula. A total of 57 nominations were received in Kadapa. Out of them, 14 were rejected and one candidate withdrew his nomination.
In Pulivendula 26 personsfiled their nominations and of them one withdrew on Thursday. The nomination of Akbar Mahabub Basha, who claimed that YSR Congress was his property, is treated as an independent.
Two more observers and 32 flying squads:
Two more observers are appointed for the bypolls, taking their total number to eight. The new observers will oversee the expenditure of the candidates and will take charge by April 25, said chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal. He added that 32 flying squads have been added to the existing 32 squads to check the flow of money.
Bank Account Scrutiny if withdrawl amount exceeds one lakh
“If more than Rs 1 lakh is withdrawn from a bank, the bank account will be scrutinised by the I-T officials in Kadapa district. Till now, police have seized Rs 1.74 crore in 21 cases. Strict instructions have been issued to check vehicles of police, media and also ambulances,” said Bhanwar Lal.
