Kadapa, Sept. 17: Kadapa police registered a case on Friday against the Kadapa mayor, Mr P. Ravindranath Reddy, on the illegal fertiliser transport issue. Cases were also registered against four other directors of the mayor’s Balaji Fertilisers Factory.
The Kadapa urban circle-inspector, Mr Venkatradri, registered cases.
Police seized six lorries going from the factory to Anantapur and Kurnool districts at Alamkhanpalle, on the outskirts of Kadapa city on September 14.
As there was a mismatch between fertiliser stocks in the lorries and in the waybills, police registered cases against the six lorry drivers and two employees of the factory.
Agriculture and vigilance officials also conducted inspections in the mayor’s factory and seized several records. All opposition parties and a section in the Congress pressurised government to take action aga-inst the mayor on the issue.
Police registered cases against managing partners Sivasankar Reddy, Venugopal Reddy, Jayachandra Reddy, Srivani and another woman in addition to Mr Ravindranath Reddy.
Meanwhile, the stage is set for the arrest of Mr Ravindranath Reddy and his business partners.
It is learnt that some political leaders are pressurising the district police administration to arrest them.
