Though the Election Commission is yet to sound the bugle, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is busy preparing for the electoral battle for the Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula Assembly constituencies, vacated by him and his mother Vijayamma respectively.Ever since the mother-son duo left the Congress and quit their Assembly and Lok Sabha seats, Jagan Mohan Reddy has been touring Pulivendula, his hometown, very frequently. Pulivendula is a part of the Kadapa Lok Sabha constituency.
Jagan, who has been touring the state vigorously holding one programme after the other, is spending whatever free time he gets in his home constituency making his best efforts to ensure that none of his supporters comes under the influence of his paternal uncle and agriculture minister YS Vivekananda Reddy.
Viveka wants his son-in-law in the fray
With Pulivendula Assembly and Kadapa Lok Sabha by-elections becoming a major challenge for him, YS Vivekananda Reddy is lobbying hard with the party high command for the Congress ticket for Pulivendula to his son-in-law Narra Rajasekhara Reddy.
He is understood to have met party president Sonia Gandhi along with his son-in-law and sought her blessings for him. Vivekananda Reddy promised to put in all his efforts to wrest the seat from Jagan Mohan Reddy.
Though Rajasekhara Reddy denies meeting Sonia Gandhi, reliable sources said he and his father-in-law did meet her. It is not clear whether she made any promise to them but Rajasekhara Reddy’s upbeat mood indicates that she was favourably inclined.Speaking to Express, Rajasekhara Reddy said: “I did not meet Sonia Gandhi (he laughs). But Pulivendula Assembly seat is a cake walk for the Congress.
