Ramachandra Reddy: ViceChancellor for second term

KADAPA, 10^th Feb’10: Prof. Arjula Ramachandra Reddy, Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences and first Vice-Chancellor of Yogi Vemana University has taken over as Vice-Chancellor for a second term of three years on Wednesday.

Born in an agriculture family in Tharigoppula in Narmetta mandal in Warangal district, on June 5, 1945, Prof. Reddy served as V-C of the university from 2006 until November end and was re-nominated V-C by Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan for a second term, after a gap of three months. He is an expert in genetics, genomis and biotechnology and particularly drought tolerance in rice.

Achievements

Prof. Ramachandra Reddy worked as professor in Central University, Hyderabad for three decades.

He is serving as Member, National Task Force on Agri-Biotechnology and Member, Review Committee on Genetic Manipulation of Department of Biotechnology in the Union Ministry of Science and Technology.

He is also serving as Science Panel Member of DFID/BBRSC, Government of U.K. and European Research Area Network on Plant Genomics, France.

He is also a Fellow of Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, Germany and Career Biotechnology in Rockefeller Foundation, USA, visiting professor of Purdue University, USA, and The Max Planck Institute in Germany, Fellow of Career Biotechnology in Rockefeller Foundation, USA, Research Associate in The John Hopkins University, USA, Member of steering committee of Rice Functional Genomics Consortium of China, USA and Philippines.
