KADAPA: Kadapa, Chittoor, Anantapur and Kurnool districts, which were known as Ceded Districts after the Nizam handed them over to the British rulers, were rechristened as Rayalaseema in a meeting in Kurnool and its history needs to be studied in a comprehensive manner, founder-secretary of C.P. Brown Memorial Library Janumaddi Hanumath Sastry said on Sunday.
Speaking as the chief guest at the valedictory session of the 31st South India History Congress on the Yogi Vemana University premises, he wanted proper compilation of the history for the benefit of future generations.
Deputy Transport Commissioner B. Srikrishnaveni said that the glorious history would create a bonding of human relationships.
History has a prominent place in every competitive examination, including APPSC Group I and Civil Services and historians and researchers should safeguard history, she said.
Professor of Political Science D. Ananda Naidu, Head of Sociology A. Paslithil, Head of Economics G. Ramaratan, and Head of History L. Selva Muthu Kumar Swamy explained about the research papers submitted in their respective departments.
Endowment lectures
Three endowment lectures, a symposium and a memorial lecture were addressed by historians. Prof. Venkataramana of Madras University delivered a lecture, Prof. Sankaran Kutti Nair of Thiruvananthapuram delivered the Kasturi Misro memorial lecture and Dr. Priyadarshina Vijayasri delivered the B.N. Chandrababu endowment lecture.
