Pulivendula (Kadapa), April 16: Several organisations are coming forward to set up solar power plants at Pulivendula in Kadapa district.
They have also applied to the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) to set up solar plants in other areas of the district as it is suitable for solar power generation. Videocon has already submitted an application, seeking 30 acres to set up a solar power plant in Pulivendula industrial estate. The company took steps to enter into an agreement and take possession of the land within two to three days.
It is learnt that Solar Semiconductor Company ac-quired 60 acres in Pulivendula and entered into an agreement with the APIIC. Officials said that 5 mw solar power could be generated from the plant. Srinivasan Energy is also coming forward to set up a 20 mw capacity power plant in Pulivendula.
The demand for solar power plants has increased in view of dwindling conventional energy resources.
Organisations are showing interest to set up solar plants near 132/222 kv power sub-stations. There is a 132/222 kv sub-station of the Indira Gandhi Centre for Advanced Research on Livestock near Pulivendula industrial estate.
The sub-station would help in transmission of solar power at lower cost.
